Carme Elias Returns to the Brain Film Fest to Present the Documentary Depicting Her Struggle Against Alzheimer’s

While you are you, the here and now of Carme Elias will be part of the competitive section of the festival with a solidarity session

The documentary, directed by Claudia Pinto and recognized with the Gaudí Award, hits theatres on February 9 2024

Barcelona, February 7, 2024.– The Brain Film Fest 2024, which will celebrate its 7th edition from March 13 to 17 at the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), will feature in its competitive section the documentary While you are you, the here and now of Carme Elias by Claudia Pinto, recently awarded the Gaudí Award. This special session will benefit Alzheimer’s research and will include a discussion with the director and the protagonist after the screening.

Carme Elias received the Special Brain Film Fest Award in 2022 in recognition of her prolific career in film, television, and theatre, awarded the Goya for Camino in 2009 and the Gaudí Honorary Award-Miquel Porter in 2021. With courage, generosity, and a desire to dignify and normalize Alzheimer’s, Elias announced that she was suffering from the disease at the festival in 2022. The Catalan actress now shares on screen the process she describes as her “last conscious journey.” Thanks to her collaboration with director Claudia Pinto, they jointly create a brave and empathetic firsthand testimony about the impact of memory loss.

Through audiovisual creation and scientific dissemination, the Brain Film Fest, driven by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, aims to show the public the multifaceted reality of the brain, from its capabilities to its diseases and conditions, in an accessible manner. It is the only festival of its kind in Europe and has been held annually since 2018 as part of Brain Awareness Week, a global campaign to increase knowledge about the advances and benefits of brain research.
