The Brain Film Fest to Feature a Case Study on the Emotional Management of Actors from Society of the snow

The session will take place on March 15 at the CCCB and will feature casting director María Laura Berch and actor Santi Vaca Narvaja

Barcelona, February 19, 2024. The Brain Film Fest 2024, driven by the Pasqual Maragall Foundation, will include in its program of activities a case study on the emotional management of actors from Society of the snow, in collaboration with the Catalan Film Academy and Blanquerna University. It will be held on March 15 at 12:30 PM in the Theatre Hall of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and will be led by María Laura Berch, casting director and acting coach for the J. A. Bayona film. The session will also feature actor Santi Vaca Narvaja, who portrays one of the Uruguayans involved in the so-called “Andes tragedy,” Daniel Maspons, in the Netflix production.

With the goal of working on the strengths of each performer, embracing their weaknesses, and designing a personalized system to make the on-set experience physically and emotionally healthy, María Laura Berch builds a bridge between the film’s directorial expectations and the actors’ desires and enthusiasm. In this special session, Berch will share with the Brain Film Fest audience the intense work she developed for Society of the snow, where the Argentine faced a great challenge: creating a new way of seeing the world. “Immersing oneself in extreme, truthful situations for the narrative, and so distant from the actor’s reality, involves individualized attention from the casting stage, helping to explore the limits of interpretation under adverse natural and narrative conditions, in both body and soul,” explains the casting director, who has been responsible for acting coaching in over two hundred film projects since 2002, including Claudia Llosa’s Distancia de rescate, Daniele Luchetti’s Llámame Francisco, and Alex de la Iglesia’s Messi.
